Our Guest House is a great spot for a family vacation or cross country ski adventure, with Yellowstone literally "right out your window". It has fabulous views of Yellowstone National Park, located directly on the Yellowstone River, and is convenient to both Yellowstone and the small town of Gardiner Montana. With 5 bedrooms and 5 baths in 3700 square feet it provides space for a large group. The space can sleep 12 adults with an additional young child in the toddler bed/crib. We offer a fully stocked kitchen, large dining table, spacious game room with pool table, ping pong table and a laundry room, too.
We are artists and owners of Elk River Art studio and gallery in Gardiner Montana. This is the home we purchased, along with adjacent property that sits directly on the Yellowstone River overlooking Yellowstone National Park. Our family lived here while we were building our new home with studio and gallery spaces, located to the west of this property.
As “project people”, we seem to have a need to always be improving what we have. So after moving into our new home, studio and gallery, we renovated this home to be used as our guest house for larger groups. After a major renovation, the kitchen has live edged granite counter tops with island bar seating. There are new hardwood and tile floors throughout the home, with recycled beams and barnwood ceilings for a Montana ambiance. All five bathrooms are completely new, designed to be unique and creative with low flush Toto toilets and tile showers.
Location, location, location
Our location is phenomenal – dramatic yet convenient. Our Guest House is perched above the Yellowstone River with an expansive view overlooking Yellowstone National Park and Electric Peak (one of the highest peaks in Yellowstone). So wildlife abounds! You never know what you might see – it can be utterly amazing wildlife encounters or simply the awe inspiring beauty of the mountains and river.
You can start your days watching the gorgeous sunrise on Electric Peak, as it turns it a beautiful ‘morning pink’ right from the breakfast table, with the gentle sounds of the Yellowstone River flowing by the property. Watch eagles, osprey and ravens soar BELOW YOU over the river. From the dining room or deck off the back, we’ve watched a wolf pack pursue and take down a pronghorn, eagles catching fish in the river, bison herds grazing, elk swimming across the river and a pronghorn give birth to twins.
Our view is south facing, so there’s lots of sunlight to soak in all day long. At the end of the day, grill in the yard while you watch the sunset reflections on the river turn it into a ribbon of orange and enjoy the “big sky” views of Montana and Yellowstone.
At night, sit outside in the lawn chairs and star gaze. Here in “big sky country”, far away from city lights, the star gazing is spectacular. And when the moon is above, the river again comes alive and sparkles with the moon’s reflection.
All this nature and convenience too!
The convenience of our property will make your vacation feel simplified and relaxed. Sitting at the far edge of Gardiner (a very small mountain town), we’re close enough to walk to all the amenities . . . restaurants, groceries, shops, white water rafting, ice cream, pizza, etc. By road, the Roosevelt Arch - the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park - is just a mile away. The Boiling River is just 2 miles away, where you can soak in the hot springs of Yellowstone. For the more adventurous in the family, walk up to one of the white water rafting companies in town, where they'll suit you up for a ride down the river. Be sure to wave to the other family members as you float by the Guest House!
Art on the walls & handmade lighting
Since we are artists, we like original art on the walls and hand made items. There are many Yellowstone landscapes and wildlife paintings by Shirl throughout the house for you to enjoy during your stay. Much of the lighting was handmade by John & Shirl to add a creative touch to the spaces. After all, Yellowstone is an inspiring place and we want your ‘home away from home’ to reflect that.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen is fully stocked to make your vacation easy. The kitchen island offers a nice work space and seating outside the work area to keep the cook company . . . or a great place for kids to snack. We have added a new large refrigerator/freezer and commercial quality stainless steel 5 burner gas stove, to make meals a breeze. There's a pantry for plenty of storage for large groups.
You’ll find lots of dishes, glasses, plates, utensils, microwave, blender, crock pot, coffee maker, pots, pans, baking sheets, etc. stored in the cupboards and the pantry, all ready to use. We provide liquid soap and dish washing detergent, so no need to stop on your way for that. We even start you off with a bag of locally roasted coffee and coffee filters too.
The layout of the home is very comfortable for a larger group, with an adjacent dining room and living space for your group to gather. We have a new large rustic dining table with chairs and bench seating, so your entire group can congregate for meals or mingling.
If you’d prefer some outdoor cooking, there is a gas grill and picnic table outside in the yard overlooking Yellowstone. Yes, you can fish in the river and grill them right outside, while you take in the views!
Living area, game room and entertainment
We supply lots of books, periodicals and DVDs for your more sedate pleasures. If you’d like to scour Yellowstone for wildlife, we have a high powered spotting scope set up and pointed out the windows. You never know what you might see!
In the living room, there’s a leather couch, large sectional with pillows and some handmade furnishings John & Shirl have made . . . a great place to relax and put your feet up. For the winter months, the gas fireplace can be fired up for added ambience.
In the game room, if you’d like more action, we have a pool tabe and ping pong table with paddles and balls for the more active members. (Side line bar stools are provided for the less active – or the refs!) We also provide a chess set, cards, board games and cribbage. We want your group to connect and have a fantastic all around Yellowstone vacation experience. So we’ve set up the game room to be a perfect place for good friends and family fun!
We provide high speed wireless internet on the property. We choose not to provide cable TV, to give your group a space where everyone can interact, play some games with each other in your ‘down time’, read or just soak in the Yellowstone views.
5 Bedrooms and 5 baths
We know comfort is a prime concern on vacations, so every bedroom has a luxury mattress with high thread count sheets and a down comforter to ‘feel like home’. We offer one king bedroom, 2 queens, 1 queen with 2 twins and 1 queen with crib/toddler bed. Each bedroom has a private bath with shower. The king bedroom suite also has a corner tub. All are stocked with fresh towels and toilet paper for your stay.
At the end of your stay, we strip the beds and wash all used linens and towels. No need to do laundry on vacation!
But just in case, we do have a large laundry room with full size washer and dryer, iron, ironing board and drying rack. Here, we also provide the laundry detergent, to keep it all as simple as possible for you. General household cleaning products are provided as well.
Relax & Enjoy
Take some inspiration from the art and the views - relax, rejuvenate and enjoy your Yellowstone experience. Try a new adventure, allow yourself the time and space to relax and unwind. Yellowstone is an amazing place where memories last a lifetime – what a great spot to reconnect with your friends and family.
We truly want you to have a fabulous vacation and enjoy Yellowstone as much as we do, in a clean and comfortable space.
