Our Gallery Lodge features luxurious rustic elegance with stunning, panoramic views of Yellowstone National Park on the banks of the Yellowstone River. Surrounding you in fine art and creativity, the unique accommodations sleep 8 to 12 with 5 bedroom and 5 private bath suites, along with a full kitchen, large dining area, gathering space and laundry room.
We are artists and the owners of Elk River Art studio and gallery in Gardiner, Montana and have designed and built this lodge ourselves. As self- employed artists, we are fortunate enough to live where ever we’d like. After searching for years, we found this spot. For two artists, inspired by nature, it’s about as good as it gets….
Directly on the Yellowstone River with phenomenal views of Yellowstone National Park, with southern exposure to take in loads of sunshine and at the edge of the friendly small mountain town of Gardiner Montana - who could ask for more? With such a magnificent location, we knew we had to build a space deserving of the site’s breathtaking scenery of the world’s first National Park; Yellowstone… natural materials, antiques with history, and large windows to bring in the views and the sunshine, too.
It was a lot of work for two artists – but slow and steady, we did it!
We had been enjoying our home, studios and gallery for a couple years. Many people came into our Elk River Art studio and gallery and commented on what a magnificent space it was and how they would love to sit, with the art around them, and take in those expansive Yellowstone views for a while themselves. We’ve always felt that we have been extremely lucky and that more people should have the opportunity to experience living close to nature as well as with original fine art. It's good for the soul. So it gave us an idea….
We could make it a fabulous way to spend a vacation – maybe even with lasting effects! We could ‘share the wealth’ by offering a unique, creative, luxurious space in a premier location for a truly memorable experience. Nature and art would seep in. Guests would go home refreshed and renewed and hopefully a little more appreciative and aware of art and the natural world. Guests would have memories to treasure for a lifetime! So… we designed and built guest accommodations onto our Gallery and Studio spaces to host overnight guests in this luxurious, creative setting.
A creative space designed and built by artists
As artists, we wanted to create something different, tasteful and very creative, where our guests could experience the grand views of Yellowstone in a unique way, wrapped in luxury, rustic elegance and fine art. High ceilings, huge windows, heavenly beds with down comforters, a gourmet kitchen with high end appliances, leather furniture, antiques, original art, creative details....We wanted it all.
We appreciate beauty in nature, architecture, and art and feel more people should have that opportunity. So now, you can experience Yellowstone, nature and wildlife, along with original fine art, in a finely designed, deluxe, comfortable and relaxing space. Designing the building in harmony with nature, we oriented it to the south, to take in loads of sunshine and even provide solar hot water for you too!
Location, location, location…
Our location is phenomenal - dramatic yet convenient. We are directly on the banks of the Yellowstone River with glorious, panoramic views overlooking Yellowstone National Park and Electric Peak (one of the highest peaks in Yellowstone). Watch sunrise on Electric Peak, wildlife roam through Yellowstone and sunset colors reflect on the Yellowstone River...all right out the windows!
Sitting at the far edge of Gardiner (a very small mountain town), we’re close enough to walk to all the amenities...restaurants, groceries, shops, white water rafting, ice cream, pizza, etc. Or, ride one of our cruiser bikes that we provide for your outdoor enjoyment.
The convenience of our property will make your vacation feel simplified and relaxed. By road, the Roosevelt Arch - the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park - is just a mile away. The Boiling River is just 2 miles away, where you can soak in the hot springs of Yellowstone. For the more adventurous in the family, they can walk up to one of the white water rafting companies in town, where they'll suit you up for a ride down the river - and they can wave to the other family members who are on the deck! Of course, if you’d rather just watch Yellowstone from the deck or out the windows, we offer books, literature, chess, board games and puzzles, too.
Gourmet cooking experience
Talk about a view from your kitchen sink!...First, we designed the kitchen space, so that from the kitchen sink, the views of Yellowstone National Park are framed in the windows for your viewing enjoyment…it makes cleaning up MUCH less of a chore!
Then, we chose the best materials to complete the space….
The gourmet kitchen incorporates high end appliances with antique hutches for your convenience and aesthetic pleasure. We are so excited to offer our guests the experience of cooking on a Lacanche range - simply the VERY best we believe. It was made in France and brought to us via ocean freight, so you can experience a range like no other! The range features 2 ovens (one electric and one gas) with 5 gas burners, complete with a large cast iron griddle and wok ring, too. A pot filler over the range, located on the handmade brick tile backsplash, add to your cooking luxuries.
Other high end appliances include a spacious Subzero refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher drawers. The soapstone counter tops and large granite sink makes the kitchen a delight to use. To store loads of dishes, wine glasses, silverware, etc. for a large group, we found a great antique hutch and placed John’s sculpture – a bronze elk – a top. You just can’t have too much art around you!
The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, glasses, dishes, etc. We even start you off with some locally roasted coffee and supply the coffee filters too. All you’ll need to bring is the food. (OR, the refrigerator can be stocked in advance, or catering arranged, with a bit of prior notice.)
The kitchen island offers seating outside the ‘work space’. We have handmade rustic bar stools with leather cushions. The island is an antique store counter, with our handmade lighting above. Off of the kitchen, is an additional comfortable seating space with large windows to take in the gorgeous views of Yellowstone National Park while chatting with the cook. The ‘conversation piece’ over the leather couch is a group of paintings by Shirl of historic items cataloged in the Yellowstone Heritage and Research Center collection….where Yellowstone history and art meet.
If you'd prefer some outdoor cooking, there is a gas grill and large picnic table outside in the yard, adjacent to the deck overlooking Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone River. Yes, you can fish in the river and grill them right outside, while you take in the views!
Truly creative dining
A creative and artistic Yellowstone dining room….What a find! - An antique Yellowstone National Park luggage cart. With a little work, we were able to restore it to become your dining table (seats 12). How fun is that?!
We created the custom dining chandelier ourselves from antique pack saddles and other reclaimed antique pieces. On the walls surrounding the wagon table hangs a collection of Shirl’s original oil plein air paintings from Yellowstone with hand gilded frames. The ceiling is reclaimed local barn wood. Large windows frame the views of the Yellowstone River and Yellowstone National Park, with double glass doors leading out onto the deck.
Gallery gathering area
Our gallery is a space surrounded by art – paintings, bronze sculpture and our handmade lighting and furnishings. While you’re here, we offer it as a great gathering area for your group, complete with leather furniture for your comfort. Not only will you be surrounded by art in the gallery gathering area, but the views are incredible as well. The large expansive window brings Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone River right into the space. Framed in the window view is Electric Peak, one of the highest peaks in Yellowstone National Park.
Luxurious and unique bedroom / bathroom suites
Each unique suite has a top of the line mattress with luxury high thread count linens, down comforters and down pillows. Each has a private bath. There are a total of 5 bedroom/bath suites….4 are in the main lodge, one bedroom (the “River Bed”) is down at the river’s edge for the more adventurous souls in your group.
In the main lodge, the largest bedroom is the Studio Bedroom suite with a king bed under a sky lit space with art all around. The bath features a handmade painted tile ceiling, chisel cut large stone slab flooring and a rustic vanity incorporating antique ornate piano legs.
The Gallery Bedroom suite boasts expansive windows with velvet curtains overlooking Yellowstone and the Yellowstone River along with an antique stained glass window too. In the bathroom is a unique boulder sink and a large walk in shower with natural stone tile.
The Yellowstone Bedroom suite has large windows to take in the views, with handmade linen curtains, crystal lighting and sliding glass doors onto the yard. The shower has a curved glass enclosure with reclaimed metal ceiling and glass tile floor.
The Montana Bedroom suite features circle sawn solid oak flooring, a hand carved heart shaped stone sink, antique iron lighting, antique hutches, reclaimed tin ceiling panels along with a bath tub and shower with glass door enclosure.
In each bathroom, we provide local handmade organic guest soap as an added touch. All towels and linens are provided as well.
Glamping at its finest – the “River Bed”
For a luxury camping experience (commonly termed “glamping” these days), we created an oasis by the Yellowstone River - included in your rental. Made from river rock with a sod roof and screening, it’s the perfect way to experience sleeping close to nature, hearing the sounds of the river, and watching the stars in the “big sky”, all while in a cozy bed with lighting and books on your bedside. The space can be used as a quiet ‘out post’ for the more adventurous couple or as a unique family camping experience. It’s complete with one luxury queen and 2 twin beds (bunks).
The full bath is in the main lodge and features a slate shower with river pebble floor and a hand painted ‘sky mural’ on the ceiling to ease your transition from the outdoors
Relax, read, play
Along with all the art to take in, we have a game table and supply a chess set, puzzles, playing cards, board games, etc. We also have many books, on Yellowstone, nature and more, for your reading and relaxing pleasure. For viewing the DVD’s we provide there is a large flat TV screen. Wi-Fi is also available throughout the lodge. Hoping that you will find many ways to relax, unwind and rejuvenate here, we have chosen not to offer satellite TV in this space.
Laundry – keeping the work to a minimum
The laundry room has a full size washer and dryer, just in case you need it. We provide the laundry detergent, iron, and ironing board. Even cleaning supplies are there if you need them. But we hope you won’t need to use them much on vacation!....To keep your laundry chores to an absolute minimum, at the end of your stay, we strip all beds and launder all used towels and bedding. That’s included. If desired, we can provide daily cleaning service too with advance notice.
